What the Poly platform is

Most hospital cart lines are steel or aluminum boxes with polymer drawer fronts. Pegasus built the Poly cart the other way round: the body, drawers and worktop are molded polymer, and the manufacturer describes the material as an antimicrobial polymer compound. The practical result for a facility is a cart with no painted surfaces to chip, no seams where steel meets plastic, and rounded edges that wipe down quickly between patients.

The manufacturer’s own summary of the design goals is modularity: multiple drawer configurations and depths, dividers, a choice of handles, a full set of discipline-specific accessories, department color-coding and a range of lock types. That is why one Poly body can be ordered as a crash cart, an anesthesia cart, a medication cart or a plain procedure cart and still share casters, rails and accessories across the fleet.

The eight published cart setups

Pegasus publishes eight starting configurations for the Poly body. Each is a drawer layout plus the accessories a department usually asks for; every one of them can be changed before ordering. The point of a setup is to give your clinical team a known starting place, not to lock you into it.

The other four published setups are IT-oriented: a multi-purpose cart, a laptop cart with a keyboard or laptop drawer, an IT medication cart and an IT procedure cart, each adding a laptop arm, all-in-one arm or VESA mount to the base body so a workstation travels with the supplies.

Heights and drawer layouts

Pegasus publishes three Poly heights. The drawer code that follows the height in a model number spells out the drawer stack from top to bottom in module units, so 44449 is four 4-unit drawers over one 9-unit drawer. That is how the manufacturer catalogs the standard layouts, and it is the language we use on your quote.

Six drawer layouts are published for the 41″ body: Standard (44449), IT Standard (34469), USA Standard (33669), Medication (3C39, where C is the cassette drawer), and two Pediatric stacks (33333336 and 4499). Other stacks can be built from the same module units; ask and we will confirm with the manufacturer before quoting.

Locks, colors and casters

Seven lock types

Security is the option most departments spend the longest on, so Pegasus publishes seven ways to close a Poly cart:

  • Standard key lock (included)
  • External lock (PLY-EXLK) and external lock set (PLY-EXLK-SET)
  • Seal lock (PLY-SLCK) with disposable numbered seals for crash carts
  • Code lock (PLY-CODELCK) keypad
  • Local-management RFID lock (PLY-CRDLCK-LM)
  • Central-management RFID lock (PLY-CRDLCK-CM)

Crash carts are usually ordered with the seal lock so the drawer contents stay controlled between events and a broken seal tells the restocking team exactly which cart to check.

Colors and casters

Four body colors are published (blue BB, red RR, grey GY and green GG), plus yellow for isolation setups, so a fleet can be color-coded by department or by cart type without labels.

Three caster packages: a 5″ swivel caster with total lock (standard, PLY-S5CST), a 5″ swivel caster with directional lock (PLY-S5CDT), and a 4″ dual caster with total and directional lock (PLY-D4CST-DT). The manufacturer notes the 4″ dual caster lowers overall cart height by about one inch.

Handles are ordered right or left (PLY-PH-R/L); a no-handle version gives the smallest footprint for tight rooms.

Accessories: side, top, integrated and complementary

Pegasus sorts the Poly accessory catalog into four groups by where the part mounts. Side accessories hang on the cart’s side rail (PLY-SRAIL) or DIN rail (PLY-FRAIL); top accessories mount to the pole kit above the worktop; integrated accessories replace or extend a drawer; complementary items are labels and mats.

Poly Light: the open-cart version

Poly Light is the open-frame member of the family. It keeps the polymer body and the same accessory rails, but trades the full drawer stack for open shelving, baskets and tilt bins. The manufacturer positions it as the economical, ultralight option for wards that need supplies mobile but do not need drawers locked.

Because it shares rails with the full Poly cart, the same side baskets, glove holders, waste bins, oxygen holders, IV poles, laptop arms and tilt-bin holders fit both. That matters when a facility standardizes on Poly for crash carts and wants a cheaper open cart for linen, dressing or phlebotomy rounds without a second accessory catalog.

Poly Light is quoted the same way as the full cart: tell us the shelf and basket count and the accessories, and we confirm with the manufacturer.

Pegasus Poly cart FAQ

Why is the Poly cart not priced online when the Apollo cart is?
Apollo, rack, wire, procedure cart and ISO 6040 parts have fixed published prices, so we can show them and take orders in the designer. Poly is configured to order and the current model list and options are confirmed with the manufacturer on each request, so we quote it in writing instead of publishing a price that might not match what ships.
Is the Poly cart really all polymer?
The manufacturer describes the body, drawers and worktop as molded polymer and states the material is an antimicrobial polymer compound. Some accessories, such as the stainless side shelf, rails and poles, are metal. We repeat the manufacturer’s material statements; we do not make independent claims about antimicrobial performance.
Which height should we order?
The 41″ body (104 cm) is the manufacturer’s standard and suits most procedure and medication use. The 36″ body works where a low worktop matters, such as pediatric or seated work; the 46″ body adds a fifth drawer for anesthesia or high-volume stock. If you choose the 4″ dual caster, expect roughly one inch less height.
Can we mix drawer sizes?
Yes. The published layouts combine 3-, 4-, 6- and 9-unit drawers plus the cassette drawer. Other stacks use the same module units. Tell us what goes in each drawer and we will propose a stack and confirm it with the manufacturer.
Do the Poly Light and the full Poly cart share accessories?
They share the side rail and DIN rail system, so baskets, glove holders, bottle holders, waste bins, oxygen cylinder holders, IV poles, tilt-bin holders and IT arms are common to both.
What lock do most crash carts use?
The seal lock. A numbered disposable seal shows at a glance whether the cart has been opened since it was last checked, and restocking teams replace the seal after every check or event. RFID and code locks are usually chosen for medication carts.
How long does a Poly quote take?
Most configured quotes go out within one to two business days once we have the drawer list and options, because we confirm availability with the manufacturer first. Lead time is quoted with the price.
Does Labs USA install or assemble the carts?
We coordinate delivery and can arrange assembly and placement in the department. Tell us on the request if you need carts delivered assembled or if your team will assemble.
