Ductless fume hoods use a fan to pull air through filters and return it to the room: activated carbon filters adsorb approved chemical vapors, and optional HEPA filters capture particles such as powders. They suit laboratories working with a manufacturer-approved chemical list where ducted exhaust is not available. Need one soon? Ask us about current availability and lead time.

Chemical Fumes and Dust Sucked Out by Ductless Fume Hoods

Ductless fume hoods are a must for every laboratory involving hazardous chemical fumes and dust. Furthermore, it’s made with high-quality parts so, you can assure the safety of your facility and staff.

One of the most important factors is the cost of ownership. Unfortunately, the price tag of equipment does not tell the entire story when it comes to a significant investment. New purchases should consider the long term and short term costs.

Detailed Information on Ductless Fume Hoods:

Centrifugal Fan

Permanently lubricated fans are energy efficient with external rotor motor design that reduces operating costs
Extremely low noise and low vibration level

Nanocarb Activated Carbon Filters

Optimized retention capacity
Diffusion technology to ensure even filter loading
Efficient no leak and easy filter changes

Sentinel Silver Microprocessor Control, Alarm System

Advanced microprocessor control supervises the operation of all hood functions. Temperature-compensated air velocity sensor monitors airflow. 24-hour clock and blower run hour meter are standard

Robust Hood Construction

Key components including Fluorescent Lamps, Motor Capacitor, Electrical Harness, Electronix Ballast, and Switch Control are mounted outside the airstream and away from contaminated areas to permit secure service

Sentinel Silver Microprocessor Control, Alarm System

Advanced microprocessor control supervises operation of all hood functions. Temperature-compensated air velocity sensor monitors airflow. 24-hour clock and blower run hour meter are standard

Rear Walls

Electro-galvanized steel wall for superior durability or tempered glass back wall

Work Top

1.5 mm, 16-gauge, type 304 stainless steel 4B finish
Easy to clean, corrosion and chemical resistant makes it an ideal worktop for experiments

Sash Window

3-degree slope front allows easy access to work zone – enhancing ergonomics, eliminating operator fatigue and increasing productivity

Auto Purge Slots

Improves containment and operator protection by preventing accumulation of fumes in the work zone

Small solvent loads: do you need a full fume hood?

Some labs are told they need several feet of ducted fume hood for one or two benchtop instruments. If the work is a small, steady solvent load, such as a titrator that uses mostly methanol with a little chloroform, a smaller solution may fit.

  • An exhaust snorkel works when emissions come from one spot, such as an instrument vent or a small open container. The arm is placed over the source and connected to building exhaust. See the snorkel selection guide and our exhaust snorkels.
  • A ductless fume hood works when every chemical you use is on the filter manufacturer’s approved list and volumes are small. It needs no ductwork, so it avoids HVAC construction.
  • A ducted fume hood is still required for large volumes, chemicals the filter is not approved for, strong acids, perchloric acid, or anything your safety officer says must be exhausted outside.

Send us your instrument list and the chemicals and volumes you use, and we will tell you which option fits. Contact Labs USA.

FAQ

Do I need a full fume hood for a small solvent load?

Not always. A single instrument such as a Karl Fischer titrator that uses small volumes of solvent can often be handled by an exhaust snorkel over the source, or by a ductless hood if the filter manufacturer approves every chemical you use. A full ducted hood is still the right choice for large volumes, chemicals the filter is not approved for, strong acids, or perchloric acid work.

Can a snorkel replace a fume hood?

A snorkel captures fumes at a single point source, such as an instrument vent or a small open container. It does not enclose the work the way a hood does, so it suits small, localized emissions rather than open handling of larger chemical volumes.
