A lab plan is decided by the things that are not drawn on it
By the time a lab plan reaches the people who will work in it, the walls are usually set. What is not set — and what actually determines whether the lab works — is how much bench the room really supports, where the ventilated enclosures go, how much of the floor the instruments and their service clearances take, and whether the casework is fixed to today’s instrument list or flexible enough to survive the next one.
Those decisions get made late, and late is expensive. Hoods placed after the mechanical design is frozen mean the room gets redrawn. Instruments sized into leftover bench space mean the lab loses working surface in its first month. Work surfaces chosen off a finish schedule instead of a chemical list mean a bench that fails early. None of this shows up on the drawing.
This review works on what can be established honestly. It reads your file for text — room labels, printed dimensions, the scale note, the title block — and quotes it back so you can check it. Then it applies planning arithmetic to the area you give us and returns ranges with each assumption printed beside it. It does not measure the drawing and does not produce a layout. It tells you what the space can carry, and exactly which questions have to be answered before casework is specified.

What the review actually gives you

A preliminary zone map. How a lab of your type and size normally divides between bench and casework, equipment and instruments, ventilated and containment areas, support and storage, and circulation and egress.
Bench and casework capacity as a range. Linear feet of bench the area supports, calculated at roughly 25 square feet of lab area per linear foot once aisle, knee space and instrument clearance are counted.
Area per person at peak. Your usable lab area against the number of people working in it at once — usually the first number that shows whether a plan is realistic.
A ventilated enclosure planning range. A hood-sized position density for the bench length, stated plainly as a starting point that your protocols and the mechanical design will overrule.
An honest missing-information checklist. Instrument list with service clearances and utilities, chemicals and processes in use, mechanical design intent including air changes and pressure relationships, and the occupancy schedule.
What this tool does not do
This is a preliminary review, not a layout, not a design and not an engineered drawing.
- The geometry of your drawing is not read. Text is extracted from the file; nothing is measured, scaled or interpreted from the lines on the page.
- Nothing here has been checked against the building code, the fire code, NFPA requirements, your mechanical design or your local jurisdiction.
- Bench and hood ranges assume a clear rectangular floor. Columns, doors, egress paths, service chases and existing equipment will all reduce them.
- Text found in an uploaded file is reported as found. It is not verified against the drawing and may come from an older revision.
- No pricing, lead time or availability is implied anywhere in the review. A person confirms all of that on a quote.
