Why support-area storage decides whether the floor stays stocked
Support areas run on volume and cycle. Linen, waste and parts move through them constantly, so a room that is a little too small or a little badly arranged fails many times a day, not once.
Cycle, not just capacity. A linen room does not need to hold a week of stock; it needs to hold enough to cover the gap between deliveries, with clean coming in and soiled going out without the two ever meeting. The right question is how much a room turns, not just how much it holds.
Clean and soiled, again. Linen has the same hard rule as clinical supply: clean and soiled must stay on separate flows and never share a room or a route. Most linen problems in an older building trace back to that line being crossed.
These rooms are small and shared. EVS closets and parts rooms are often the smallest rooms on the floor, doing the most jobs. Getting storage onto the walls and up to the ceiling is usually the only way to make them work.

Linen is the highest-volume material most support areas handle, and it moves on a loop: clean linen is delivered and stored, distributed to units and point-of-use positions, used, returned as soiled in hampers, staged, and hauled out for processing. Storage has to serve every stage of that loop without ever letting the clean and soiled halves touch.
The clean linen room wants open, wipe-clean shelving with the high-turn items at hand height, sized to cover the delivery gap. Point-of-use linen — on the unit, in the exam room — belongs on carts or shallow wall positions restocked from the main room. The soiled side is a staging problem. Soiled linen and hampers accumulate on a predictable cycle between pickups, and a soiled room too small for a full cycle pushes hampers into the corridor — the same corridor-clutter failure that shows up on nursing units. The room needs space for a full hamper cycle, a clear staging line, and a route out that never crosses the clean linen flow.
