The Situation
New Horizon Medical works in medical products, and its Las Vegas, Nevada operation had already expanded once with Labs USA. The earlier project added high density mobile wire shelving to solve a storage problem. This project was different: the company needed work surface, and a lot of it, in a room that was going into service on a fixed date.
Fifteen work stations is not a casual order. When a laboratory or production area is being stood up all at once, the work surface decision sets everything else. Instrument placement, cleaning protocol, chemical handling, seated or standing work, and how long the room lasts before it needs refinishing all follow from what the benches are made of and how they are built.
The schedule was the hard constraint. Laboratory casework normally quotes at eight to ten weeks because it is built to order, and the room needed to be usable in about three. That timing usually pushes buyers toward a compromise: commodity steel tables from an industrial catalog, or laminate tops that will not survive cleaning agents. Color was confirmed against a physical chip before the order was released to production rather than approved from a screen or a printed sheet, so the finish on the delivered run matched what the customer had actually chosen.
