Fan Filter Units (FFU) — HEPA/ULPA Ceiling Filtration
Fan filter units are self-contained ceiling modules combining a fan and HEPA (99.99% at 0.3µm) or ULPA (99.9995% at 0.12µm) filter in a single unit. They mount in cleanroom ceiling grids and provide clean, filtered air in a downward laminar flow pattern. FFUs are the primary air cleaning technology in modular cleanrooms.
Labs USA supplies FFUs in 2’×4′ and 2’×2′ sizes with EC (electronically commutated) motors for energy efficiency, variable speed control, and low noise. Grid-mounted or individually mounted configurations available.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many FFUs do I need?
Ceiling coverage depends on your ISO classification. ISO 5 requires 80–100% ceiling coverage. ISO 6: 25–40%. ISO 7: 15–25%. ISO 8: 5–15%. Labs USA calculates exact FFU quantity based on room size, classification, and heat load.
How often do FFU filters need replacing?
HEPA filters in FFUs typically last 3–7 years depending on the ambient environment. Pre-filters (changed every 6–12 months) extend HEPA life. Labs USA recommends a maintenance schedule based on your environment.
